TYRE SAFETY

Tyre Safety

What are the best tyre brands for tyre safety?

If you are a car driver concerned about safety on the road, you need to be choosing car tyres that are designed specifically with tyre safety in mind. Read on to find out why the new Bridgestone Turanza 6 is the ideal choice of tyre to buy.

Your car tyres are the only four contact points between your car and the road. In other words, all the impressive safety features and gadgets on your car are only as effective as the four tyres that are rolling beneath them.

Ok, this sounds like we’re stating the obvious and you’ve probably heard it before, but why would you compromise on the quality of your tyres for the sake of saving a few pounds?

At ETB Autocentres, we appreciate the cost of everything as well as the value, which is why there will always be the perfect tyre to suit you, your driving style and your wallet. In other words, your safety is our passion at ETB.

Why safe car tyres matters.

Unlike brake systems, airbags, blind spot monitoring, lane assist, collision avoidance systems or any other car safety features in between, your tyres are the only contact points with the road. So if your tyres are under inflated, over inflated or below the legal tread limit, nothing else really matters. What tyre safety checks can I do?

Simple tyre checks such as:

  • Tread depth, that they are not worn down.
  • Tyre pressure, not over or under inflated.
  • And, looking at tyre condition.

Are worn tyres that bad?

A recent study by Professor Peter Wells of the Centre for Automotive Industry Research at Cardiff University argues that driving on illegal tyres is worse than drink driving.

According to the research, cars with tyres at the legal limit of 1.6mm of tread could increase braking distance by over a third compared to tyres in good condition with 4mm or more of tread.

The study, which even compared the impact of worn tyres in wet, winter weather conditions and alcohol consumption on stopping distance, concluded that travelling with tyres on minimal tread increases additional stopping distance seven times more than being affected by alcohol.

Drinking booze increases reaction time by 120 milliseconds. When driving at 70mph, this would equate to an increased stopping distance of 12.4ft.

Why buy premium tyres?

Some motorists think premium tyres are a distress purchase and deem the expense as unwanted, but at ETB, we think tyre purchases should be viewed in a different way.

If you think about a tank of petrol, most of us will put in £120 and won’t think twice. That could last two weeks, whereas a high quality tyre will keep going for two years. A tank of petrol will give you around 500 miles, whereas a premium tyre, like the Bridgestone Turanza 6 can give you tens of thousands.

And, all tyres are not born equal; the best tyres are quieter, smoother, grippier and last longer and more than that, they keep you and your family safe. A tank of fuel doesn’t do that.

Not so much a distress purchase then, more a choice for life.

Why the Bridgestone Turanza 6 is the ideal choice

The all-new Bridgestone Turanza 6 tyre has safety at the heart of its design, providing outstanding performance in all conditions, while also offering superior mileage2 and improved fuel/energy efficiency2.

According to the World Health Organisation, more than 1.35 million people are killed on the world’s roads every year, and a further 20 to 50 million suffer non-fatal injuries, often life-changing.5

The Turanza 6 prioritises safety as the ultimate goal, with statistics like these in mind. Bridgestone is working hard to address road safety issues and to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #3.6 target to halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents by 2030.

Tyres like the Turanza 6 will play their part, bringing enhanced safety for motorists, keeping them safe in all conditions.

Bridgestone Turanza 6 is now available at ETB Autocentres in a wide coverage for both passenger cars and on-road SUVs, whether they are internal combustion engine, hybrids or electric vehicles.
