Liam loving life at ETB tyres Malvern

“Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

If ever a quote summed up ETB tyre technician Liam Williams, then this one is surely it.

The 25 year-old from Worcester knew what he wanted to do at the tender age of 12, when his dad was about to scrap his beloved Ford Mondeo.

“He was going to get rid of it as it kept breaking down. I wanted to repair it and put it back together and gave it a go. That’s where it all started,” he said.

“Even back then, I knew that I would end up working with cars every day, because it was the first passion I had.

“I am quite customer orientated too and love to chat to people, so I get a lot of satisfaction from my job in that regard.”

Liam, who has worked at ETB since 2018, said lots had changed in the tyre trade since he first began, not least the tyres, which he won’t accept are identical even if they might look the same.

“The technology behind tyres has evolved so much, too. The compounds, tread patterns and wet-braking performance characteristics have advanced so much, not to mention noise, dry handling and the arrival of EV products. Bridgestone are an example of this. When you look at their all-season product and new Potenza Sport tyre, you can see that they’re taking performance to a new level.

“Then they have the ‘tall and narrow’ electric products too, which look so different on the naked eye alone.

“Motorists are more informed and generally have more of an idea about what tyres they want these days, rather than going on price alone. I find it easier to have those conversations too, which leads to a more informed decision.”

Liam recalls some challenging customer experiences during his time at ETB, but he still wouldn’t change a thing.

“One customer had so much old food in the car, I swear I saw some of it moving in the footwells I had to get her to come back and empty it all out!

“Then there’s an occasional issue with misplaced locking wheel nuts, but we usually find a way around it.”
